43rd Annual CMF Conference a Tremendous Success at Mission Dolores

The 43rd Annual California Missions and Presidios Conference, presented by the California Missions Foundation and held at Mission Dolores, was a tremendous success, bringing together scholars, supporters, and enthusiasts for a memorable weekend of history, scholarship, and community.

The conference began Friday with engaging tours of the Presidio of San Francisco, and concluded on Sunday with a tour of the nearby former mission outpost — Rancho of San Pedro y San Pablo and the historic Sanchez Adobe.

Friday evening was highlighted by the annual awards ceremony held inside the historic Mission Dolores church. Julia Costello and Andrew Galvan were each honored with the 2026 Knox Mellon Lifetime Achievement Award. David Rickman received the CMF Norman Neuerburg Award, and Eric Blind was presented with the CMF Edna Kimbro Award. A special Chairman’s Award was also given in recognition of the dedicated docents of Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa.

Friday evening concluded with a fabulous keynote by Ohlone Indian Vincent Medina.

Saturday’s program featured an outstanding lineup of scholars whose presentations reflected the depth and vitality of mission and presidio studies, making for a truly rewarding day of learning and discussion.

The 250th anniversary of the founding of the mission and presidio, as well as that of the important Anza Expedition, were highlighted and recognized throughout the conference.

CMF extends its sincere appreciation to all who contributed to the success of this year’s conference, including our attendees, presenters, volunteers, the staff at Mission Dolores, and the members of both the CMF Board and Conference Committee, whose tireless efforts made this event possible.

We look forward to welcoming you to next year’s 2027 conference in Santa Barbara, with additional details to be shared soon.

Thank you for your continued support of the California Missions and the California Missions Foundation.
